Seminar at the Leiria Polytechnic Institute
On October 25 AIDGLOBAL, in partnership with the School of Education and Social Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL), organized the seminar “Social Inclusion of Migrant Women – Initiatives and Recommendations”.
The initiative was part of the Urbagri4women – Innovative practices and urban initiatives in the field of agriculture to promote the integration of migrant women into the host society, and was attended by 108 students and 5 teachers from IPL.
At the seminar, a Green Paper was presented, made by the partner organization CARDET, based on the results of the SWOT analysis of the different partners: a consultation document on policy proposals for discussion at the level of the European Union, allowing the opportunity to develop a common approach in the Union in terms of asylum and immigration, foreseeing actions for the integration of migrant women into municipalities.
The students were invited to discuss the key issues included in the Green Paper and to systematize recommendations in group work, which were subsequently submitted as a contribution from Portugal.
The event was attended by invited speakers and project partners: João Santos and Filomena Aivado, from the Hortas Ecologicas Project and Lurdes Gonçalves from Start.Social.
António Castanheira, Psychologist of the City Hall of Ourém, was also present representing the municipality that was distinguished for the dignified solutions for the reception and integration of refugees, accompanied by T., a refugee hosted in that city.
